One of the most well-known festivals is back! BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend will be held in Derry/Londonderry at Ebrington Square between 24 and 26 May. The festival is going to return to Derry for the first time since 2004 and its mayor Kevin Campbell cannot hide his excitement:
“The Radio 1 Big Weekend event in 2004 was a huge event for the city and region and we are delighted that Radio 1 has decided to come back to Derry and bring some of the world’s top performing artists to be part of our City of Culture celebrations.
“The return of Europe’s biggest free ticketed music event is a huge coup for the city and we are hugely excited about it.”
The Big Weekend has been known to attract the biggest musical acts and promising young artists and it’s not going to disappoint this year as well. This year, there will be two stages – the Main Stage and the 1Xtra Arena/In New Music We Trust Stage. All of the 37,500 tickets have been sold out a long time ago, on the 17th April in just under one hour! If that’s not high demand, then I don’t know what is!
If you have been able to get your hands on the tickets, I can congratulate you! Have fun at this fantastic musical event J And for the rest of us – cheer up mates, we’ll have to wait for next year 😉
